The Southwestern Artists Association, a non-profit organization, was founded in January, 1981. Our purpose is to provide opportunities for sharing ideas and ideals among members who enjoy creating art as a form of self-expression. We also provide members the opportunity to display and sell their work in Association-sponsored shows open to the general public.

The Association also endows scholarships for qualifying local Art Students at the Yavapai Community College in Prescott.

Upon receipt of annual membership dues, all persons over the age of 18, interested in fine art and crafts, are welcomed into membership in the Association with the opportunity of participation in regular activities and programs, as stipulated in the Bi-Laws. We are based in Prescott, Arizona, but our members reside throughout the Southwestern United States. Our membership includes those seeking to learn about fine art, as well as semi-professional and professional artisans.

Members are encouraged to bring their works of art to the general meetings to participate in monthly competitions. Artwork is awarded points which accumulate and allow an individual to gain higher levels of competition. The person accumulating the most points during the year is selected “Artist of the Year" and becomes featured artist at one of the juried art shows. Art may be entered in the following categories: oil/acrylic, watercolor, pastels, graphics, mixed media, photography, glass art, three-dimensional, fiber arts, and leather. All subject matter is accepted and art must be framed and ready for show.

SWAA sponsors art exhibits at local businesses. Members who qualify at Exhibitors Level, may display their art and sell from these approved locations. The art is changed every other month and sales have proved to be very successful.

The Southwestern Artists Association meets in the evening on the fourth Tuesday of each month in Prescott, Arizona. Guests are always welcome. Meetings are conducted by elected officers of the Association. Meeting programs may consist of lectures, demonstrations, or slide programs, all of which are presented by professional artists.
